Current Seminars Offered:
I. Personal Safety: (13 years and older)
During this seminar we will discuss personal safety and awareness: how to spot an attacker,
how not to be any easy target, tips on how to stay safe and keep others informed,
how the body responds to a threat, the importance of physical conditioning,
speed, strikes, and targeting points. This is a discussion only seminar. 1.5 hours
II. Quick Releases: (14 years and older)
Do you know what to do if someone grabs you?
During this interactive seminar you will enhance your safety by focusing on
quick releases, basic strikes, and a street application approach to self-defense;
not sport martial arts. Participants should wear comfortable clothing for this
practical hands-on class. 1.5 hours. Liability release required to be signed at first class
by adult participant or minor's guardian.
III. Techniques (16 years and older)
Interested in learning some detailed techniques taught
through a school with a curriculum designed for self-defense and not sport martial arts?
During this interactive seminar you will be taught full techniques against different grabs.
These techniques are all based on cause & effect results and have been field tested.
Participants should wear comfortable clothing for this hands-on class. 1.5 hours. Liability release
required to be signed at first class by adult participant or minor's guardian.
IV. Weapon Defense: (18 years and older)
In this seminar you will learn the 3 basic types of weapons,
use of and defense against, the pros and cons for each, and also have an opportunity to try your
skills using rubber or padded training weapons. NO REAL WEAPONS permitted.
Participants should wear comfortable clothing for this practical hands-on class.
1.5 hours. Liability release required to be signed at first class by adult participant.
V. Reflex Training: (18 years and older)
Speed with critical thinking is necessary for self-defense,
but how is it developed? Learn tips as you train on speed development for self-defense
or daily activities. Increase your reaction time, agility, hand-eye development,
awareness skills, grip strength, and overall physical coordination and conditioning
through the use of agility ladders, bean bags, Nerf guns, and friendly competitive
games and challenges. Leave your ego at home and let yourself play as a child again.
Work at your own pace and skill level. Participants should wear comfortable clothing
for this fun participation class. 1.5 hours. Liability release required to be signed at first
class by adult participant.

Programs offered through Carpenter Park Rec Center must meet a minimum
enrollment at least 1 week before the course date.
In the event a course is cancelled,
those registered will receive a full refund by the City of Plano Parks and Rec.
Instructor:
Cheryl Bales has over 25 years in teaching self-defense seminars and programs.
She has worked with law enforcement and special ops groups. Some of the organizations she
has had the privilege to teach for have been the Texas Army National Guard, A.D.A.P.T., City of Plano,
City of Wylie, Allen Public Library, Plano Public Library, CAIR-DFW, United Way, JCPenney, Boy and Girl Scouts of America troops.
